Is the Barcelona Card Worth It? Prices, What's Included and When You Save Money
We earn a commission if you book through some links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend. How we make money
Worth it if your trip is museums plus metro: three days of Museu Picasso, MNAC and Montjuïc Castle with transport costs €8.84 less on the 72-hour card than paying separately (checked 23 Oct 2026). Not worth it for a Gaudí-focused trip: Sagrada Família and Park Güell are not included at all, Casa Batlló's €7 discount only applies at its more expensive ticket office and La Pedrera's only to afternoon entry, so buy those direct and add a Hola Barcelona transport card.

Does the Barcelona Card pay off for your plan?
Adult online prices checked 23 Oct 2026. Ignores museums’ own free-entry hours and children’s prices. Discounts that only apply at a ticket office are counted as zero.
What does the Barcelona Card include today?
The Barcelona Card is sold by Turisme de Barcelona, the city’s tourism board. According to its official page (checked 22 Oct 2026), it gives you three things:
- Free entry to more than 25 museums and cultural venues. You get one entry per venue.
- More than 70 discounts, most of them between 10% and 50% off, on other sights, tours and shows.
- Unlimited public transport, but only on the version that includes it.
Transport covered (transport version only): TMB metro and buses, TRAM, Renfe Rodalies commuter trains in zone 1, the Montjuïc funicular, and the metro and train to Barcelona Airport. Night buses are not included. The Hola Barcelona travel card does include them (NitBus), which matters if you will come back late.
Free entry (selection from the official list): Museu Picasso, MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya), Fundació Miró, Fundació Tàpies, MACBA, CCCB, CaixaForum, CosmoCaixa, Castell de Montjuïc, the MUHBA history museum sites, Museu de la Xocolata, Museu Egipci, Moco Museum, Museu Banksy, Pedralbes Monastery, the Olympic Museum and the Botanical Garden.
Discounts only, not free entry: Casa Batlló (€7 off), La Pedrera (€7 off La Pedrera Essential adult tickets, entry from 2 pm only), Palau de la Música (25% off), Sant Pau (20% off), Palau Güell (20%), Casa Vicens (20%), the Aquarium, the Zoo and Tibidabo (20% each), the Montjuïc cable car (15% off a return ticket) and Barcelona Bus Turístic (10% off).
Not on either list: Sagrada Família and Park Güell. Our itinerary maths below shows why this decides most trips.
How much does the Barcelona Card cost?
These are the official shop’s online prices. They are 10% below the list price for the transport version, and we got the same figures for visit dates of 23 Oct, 10 Nov and 20 Dec 2026 (checked 22 Oct 2026).
| Duration | Barcelona Card (with transport), adult | Child 4–12 | Barcelona Card Essential (no transport), adult | Child 4–12 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 48 hours | €35.10 (list €39) | €24.30 | not sold | not sold |
| 72 hours | €53.10 (list €59) | €33.30 | €29 | €15 |
| 96 hours | €62.10 (list €69) | €41.40 | €35 | €17 |
| 120 hours | €71.10 (list €79) | €48.60 | €45 | €20 |
The page says children under 3 get in free.
About “Barcelona Card Express”: the shop sold no product with that name on 22 Oct 2026, and the address thisisbarcelona.com/tickets/barcelona-card-express returns a 404 error. If you search for “Express”, the 48-hour option is the one you want.
How many entries do you need for it to pay off?
The useful comparison is not “card vs nothing”. It is the card against the Hola Barcelona travel card, which gives unlimited transport, including one airport metro trip each way. The difference between the two prices is what you pay for the museums.
| Duration | Barcelona Card | Hola Barcelona card | You need more than this in free entries |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48 h | €35.10 | €17.76 | €17.34 |
| 72 h | €53.10 | €25.94 | €27.16 |
| 96 h | €62.10 | €33.82 | €28.28 |
| 120 h | €71.10 | €41.42 | €29.68 |
All prices are online and were checked on 22 Oct 2026. In practice, the card pays off with two or three paid museums from the free list. Discounts at other sights add a little on top.
Worked savings: three realistic trips
Every attraction price comes from that attraction’s own site or the city council’s listing, checked on 22 Oct 2026. Each plan is for one adult unless stated.
Trip 1: museums and Montjuïc, 3 days. Verdict: the card wins
| Item | Paying separately | With 72 h Barcelona Card |
|---|---|---|
| Transport, 72 h (Hola card) | €25.94 | included |
| Museu Picasso (online price, collection) | €12 | free |
| MNAC | €12 | free |
| Castell de Montjuïc | €12 | free |
| Barcelona Card 72 h | – | €53.10 |
| Total | €61.94 | €53.10 |
You save €8.84, and every extra museum from the free list adds more. We didn’t count Fundació Miró because we couldn’t confirm its current price on the foundation’s own website.
Where this goes wrong: free-entry slots. MNAC is free every Saturday from 3 pm and on the first Sunday of the month. Castell de Montjuïc is free on Sundays after 3 pm. Museu Picasso is free on Thursdays from 4 to 7 pm between 14 October and 13 April. If you can fit Picasso and MNAC into those slots, the separate total drops to €37.94 (Hola card plus Castell), and the card then costs you €15.16 more. Free slots need advance online booking.
If you will walk everywhere: the 72-hour Essential card (€29) against the same three museums (€36) saves €7.
Trip 2: Gaudí-focused, 3 days. Verdict: the card loses
| Item | Paying separately | With 72 h Barcelona Card |
|---|---|---|
| Transport, 72 h (Hola card) | €25.94 | included |
| Sagrada Família, basic ticket | €26 | €26 (not included) |
| Park Güell, general ticket | €18 | €18 (not included) |
| Casa Batlló, from (online) | €29 | €29 (the card’s €7 off is only valid at the ticket office, see below) |
| La Pedrera Essential, from | €29 | €22 (€7 off, entry from 2 pm) |
| Barcelona Card 72 h | – | €53.10 |
| Total | €127.94 | €148.10 |
The card costs you €20.16 more. Casa Batlló lists the Barcelona Card’s €7 discount under “discounts only at the ticket office for the General Visit”, and its own FAQ says ticket-office prices are €4–15 higher than online (checked 22 Oct 2026). So at Casa Batlló the card saves you at most €3 against booking online, and can cost you more; we count it as no saving. We still applied La Pedrera’s €7 (entry from 2 pm) as a best case for the card, although La Pedrera’s FAQ says discount cards are only accepted at its ticket offices, where some fares carry a surcharge. The real gap is probably larger.
Add Museu Picasso (€12) and the two totals become €139.94 against €148.10: the card is still €8.16 behind. For a Gaudí trip, buy each ticket on the official site and add a Hola Barcelona card. Our ticket guides explain how to spot copycat ticket sites.
If Modernisme is the whole point of your trip, look at the Barcelona Card Modernista instead (72 h €134 adult, checked 22 Oct 2026). It covers one entry each to 10 sites, including Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Palau de la Música, Sant Pau, Casa Vicens and Palau Güell. It doesn’t include Sagrada Família, Park Güell or transport. We haven’t priced all 10 sites, so we don’t claim a saving.
Trip 3: family of four (children aged 8 and 10, both over 120 cm), 3 days. Verdict: the Family card wins, but only if Tibidabo is in the plan
| Item | Paying separately | Barcelona Card Family, 72 h |
|---|---|---|
| Transport, 72 h: 4 × Hola card (only under-4s ride free) | €103.76 | included |
| Zoo: 2 × €23 + 2 × €13.90 | €73.80 | free |
| Aquarium: 2 × €30 + 2 × €23 | €106 | free |
| Tibidabo Amusement Park: 4 × €39 | €156 | free |
| Cards: 2 × €112 + 2 × €72 | – | €368 |
| Total | €439.56 | €368 |
The family saves €71.56. The card also includes CosmoCaixa, Las Golondrinas boats and Castell de Montjuïc, which we didn’t count. Two cases change the answer:
- Without Tibidabo, paying separately costs €283.56, and the Family card costs €84.44 more.
- With children between 90 and 120 cm, Tibidabo’s junior ticket is €15.50, and the saving shrinks to €24.56.
The standard Barcelona Card is a poor fit for this family. Four 72-hour cards cost €172.80. With 20% off the Zoo, Aquarium and Tibidabo, the total is €441.44, slightly more than paying separately. (We assumed the 20% applies to the prices above.)
Barcelona Card vs Hola BCN, Articket, Go City and “Barcelona City Pass”
| Option | Price (checked 22 Oct 2026) | Transport | Sagrada Família / Park Güell | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barcelona Card | €35.10 (48 h) to €71.10 (120 h) | Yes, incl. airport; no night buses | No / No | Museums plus a lot of metro use |
| Barcelona Card Essential | €29 (72 h) to €45 (120 h) | No | No / No | Museum days when your hotel is central |
| Barcelona Card Family | €112 adult / €72 child (72 h) | Yes | No / No | Zoo + Aquarium + Tibidabo trips |
| Hola Barcelona card | €17.76 (48 h) to €41.42 (120 h) | Yes, incl. NitBus and one airport trip each way | No / No | Everyone not covered above |
| Articket | €38 | No | No / No | Six art museums at a slow pace (valid one year) |
| Go City Barcelona | Adult €89 (Essentials, 3 picks), €114 (Explorer, 3 attractions), €189 (All-Inclusive, 2 days) | Not mentioned | Sagrada Família guided tour and Park Güell listed | Gaudí-focused trips, if the numbers work for your dates |
Articket vs Essential: all six Articket museums (Picasso, Miró, MNAC, MACBA, CCCB, Tàpies) are on the Barcelona Card’s free list. If you can see them within three days, the 72-hour Essential card costs €29 against €38 for the Articket. Choose the Articket if you want a whole year to use it. The Barcelona Card page doesn’t say whether temporary exhibitions are covered, so ask the museum.
Go City Barcelona: the prices above are what gocity.com listed on 22 Oct 2026, marked as “original price”. We read the page through a summary because it blocked direct access. It lists the Sagrada Família guided tour, Park Güell with hosted entry, Casa Batlló and a 24-hour hop-on hop-off bus, and doesn’t mention public transport. Check on the Go City site how you book time slots before you buy.
“Barcelona City Pass” / “Barcelona Pass”: several private resellers use these names for bundles of Sagrada Família, Park Güell and a sightseeing bus. We couldn’t find a single official operator site, so we don’t quote prices. None of them is the Barcelona Card, and none is sold by the tourism board.
Who the Barcelona Card is for, and who should skip it
Buy it if:
- You will visit at least two or three paid museums from the free list within the card’s days, and use the metro or bus every day.
- You land at El Prat and want the airport metro or train covered without buying a €5.90 airport ticket (TMB price, checked 22 Oct 2026).
- You are a family planning the Zoo, Aquarium and Tibidabo. In that case buy the Family version, not the standard card.
Skip it if:
- Your list is mostly Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera.
- You travel with children or teenagers who already get in free. Picasso is free for under-18s, and MNAC and Castell de Montjuïc for under-16s.
- You will be out late on night buses. The Hola card covers them and the Barcelona Card doesn’t.
- You can line up the free-entry afternoons described in Trip 1.
How to buy and collect it
- Buy online on the official Barcelona Card page to get the 10% discount. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before your booked date.
- Collect the physical card at a Turisme de Barcelona office. The official page lists the airport (T1 and T2), Plaça de Catalunya 17-S, Plaça d’Espanya, the Sagrada Família information booth and the Columbus Monument. The two product pages give different hours for the same offices: the Barcelona Card page lists the airport metro offices at 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, and the Family page at 8:30 am to 8 pm. Check before you rely on an airport pickup.
- Activation: the terms say the card activates the first time you use it at a free venue. The FAQ on the Italian version of the shop page says instead that it activates automatically on first use, on public transport or at an attraction (the English page’s FAQ is copied from the Family card; checked 23 Oct 2026). As the two don’t agree, confirm at the pickup desk.
Two terms to read before buying:
- Hours or days? The options are sold as 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours, but the same page’s terms say the card “is valid for consecutive days, not for 24-hour periods”. We couldn’t resolve this. Plan as if it runs on calendar days and start early on your first day.
- End of year: the terms say the pass is “valid until the end of the current year”. Don’t buy in December for a January trip without asking Turisme de Barcelona first.
If something goes wrong:
- If the airport office is closed when you land, buy a single airport ticket (€5.90) and collect the card in town.
- If a museum on your list is closed on the day, remember that most of them close on Mondays. The Articket page notes all six art museums close on Mondays except MACBA, which closes on Tuesdays. Put museum days elsewhere in the week.
More passes and transport options are on the bus and passes hub.
How we checked this page
- Official pages read on 22 Oct 2026: the Barcelona Card, Barcelona Card Family, Barcelona Card Modernista, Articket and Hola Barcelona travel card pages in the Turisme de Barcelona shop (thisisbarcelona.com). Per-option prices came from each page’s booking calendar for several visit dates.
- Attraction prices, checked 22 Oct 2026: sagradafamilia.org (prices), parkguell.barcelona (prices and times), casabatllo.es (online tickets), lapedrera.com (tickets), museunacional.cat (opening hours and prices), the Castell de Montjuïc page on ajuntament.barcelona.cat, museupicassobcn.cat (Museu Picasso prices and opening hours, checked 23 Oct 2026; the collection ticket fell from the €14 the city agenda lists to €12 online), zoobarcelona.cat, aquariumbcn.com, tibidabo.cat, tmb.cat (fares) and gocity.com (passes).
- Our own work: the break-even table and all three itinerary calculations.
- Not first-hand yet: nobody from our team has bought, collected or used a Barcelona Card. We haven’t timed the airport pickup, tested activation on the metro, checked whether the Casa Batlló and La Pedrera discounts apply to online tickets, or taken photos. Fundació Miró and CosmoCaixa prices could not be confirmed on their own sites, so we left them out of the maths.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Barcelona Card include Sagrada Família or Park Güell?
No. Neither appears in the card's free list or its discount list (checked 22 Oct 2026). Buy Sagrada Família on sagradafamilia.org (from €26) and Park Güell on parkguell.barcelona (€18).
Does the Barcelona Card cover the airport metro and train?
The transport version does: the official page lists metro and train to Barcelona Airport. The cheaper Barcelona Card Essential has no transport at all. Neither version covers night buses.
Is there still a Barcelona Card Express?
Not in the official Turisme de Barcelona shop on 22 Oct 2026: there is no product with that name. The shortest option is the 48-hour Barcelona Card at €35.10 online.
Is there a Barcelona Card discount code?
You don't need one. The official shop takes 10% off automatically when you buy online (€39 down to €35.10 for 48 hours, checked 22 Oct 2026). The codes on the card's page, such as the Paradox Museum one, are for venues where you show the card.
Barcelona Card or Hola Barcelona travel card?
The Hola card covers transport only and costs €25.94 for 72 hours online. The 72-hour Barcelona Card costs €53.10, so it only pays off if you will use more than €27.16 of free entries in those three days.
Is the Barcelona Card digital?
No. It is a physical smart card with an NFC chip. You buy it online and pick it up at a Turisme de Barcelona office, for example at the airport or in Plaça de Catalunya.
Is the Barcelona Card Family priced per family?
No, each person pays. On 22 Oct 2026 the 72-hour card was €112 per adult and €72 per child aged 4 to 12, so two adults and two children pay €368.
