Aerobús Barcelona: Prices, Stops, Timetable and When the Metro Is Better
We earn a commission if you book through some links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend. How we make money
Take the Aerobús if you are staying near Plaça Catalunya, Plaça Universitat or Plaça Espanya. It costs €7.75 one way or €13.30 return, runs 24 hours from both terminals, and takes about 35 minutes. Skip it if you already have a Hola Barcelona card (its included airport metro trip is free to you), if you're heading to Sants from T2 (the train is direct), or if three or four of you can share a taxi.

Who should take the Aerobús, and who shouldn’t?
Take it if:
- You are staying near Plaça Catalunya, Plaça Universitat, Plaça Espanya or the Gran Via between them. You get off with no changes.
- You are travelling alone or as a couple with suitcases. Two singles cost €15.50, against a taxi meter that starts at €21 from the airport.
- You land late. The Aerobús is the only public option that runs all night at frequent intervals: every 20 minutes even at 3 am.
- You want a simple return. The €13.30 return saves €2.20 against two singles and lasts 90 days.
Skip it if:
- You already have a Hola Barcelona card. TMB says it includes one outbound and one return metro journey to the airport. Paying for the Aerobús on top is optional comfort, not a necessity.
- You land at T2 and are going to Sants or Passeig de Gràcia. The R2 Nord train runs direct, and the Aerobús doesn’t stop at Sants at all.
- There are three or four of you. Four Aerobús singles cost €31. Our taxi estimate to Plaça Catalunya is €28–31 on a weekday daytime and €33–36 at night or weekends, for the whole car, to your door.
- You are going to the cruise port. A taxi between the airport and the Moll Adossat terminals is a fixed €46, all supplements included.
Which Aerobús line do I need: A1 or A2?
| Line | Terminal | Airport stop (to the city) | Airport stop (from the city) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Terminal 1 | T1 Level 0 (Arrivals) | T1 Level 3 (Departures), then T1 Level 0 (Arrivals) |
| A2 | Terminal 2 (T2A, T2B, T2C) | T2B and T2C | T2B only |
The operator’s advice: check with your airline which terminal you are flying from, and take that line. Both lines start at Plaça Catalunya and look the same at the stop, so read the line number on the bus. If you take the wrong one, Aena’s free shuttle connects T1 and T2 24 hours a day. Aena gives the ride as 10 minutes from T1 to T2B/C and 14 minutes from T2 to T1, plus the wait.
Where does the Aerobús stop in the city?
| Direction | Stops in order | Metro connections |
|---|---|---|
| Airport → city (A1 and A2) | Plaça Espanya → Gran Via – Borrell → Plaça Universitat → Plaça Catalunya (last stop) | Espanya L1, L3 · Urgell L1 (near Borrell) · Universitat L1, L2 · Catalunya L1, L3 |
| City → airport (A1 and A2) | Plaça Catalunya → Carrer Sepúlveda → Plaça Espanya → airport | Catalunya L1, L3 · Urgell L1 · Espanya L1, L3 |
Two stops work in one direction only. Plaça Universitat and T2C are only for journeys from the airport into the city. Going to the airport, you can’t board at Universitat, and the A2 doesn’t stop at T2C. Board at Plaça Catalunya or Carrer Sepúlveda instead, and walk from T2B to T2C. Aena puts that at 5 minutes on foot.
Useful transfers. For the Sagrada Família, get off at Plaça Universitat and take metro L2, which runs direct. For the Eixample around Passeig de Gràcia, stay on to Plaça Catalunya and walk up. For Montjuïc or the Fira, get off at the first stop, Plaça Espanya.
How often does the Aerobús run?
The service runs 24 hours a day, every day including weekends and public holidays. Frequencies from the operator:
| Line and direction | Every 5 min | Every 10 min | Every 20 min |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 airport → city | 07:15–22:30 | 05:35–07:15 and 22:30–01:05 | 01:05–05:35 |
| A1 city → airport | 06:40–21:55 | 05:00–06:40 and 21:55–00:35 | 00:35–05:00 |
| A2 airport → city | – | 05:35–23:00 | 23:00–05:35 |
| A2 city → airport | – | 05:00–22:30 | 22:30–05:00 |
The A2 runs half as often as the A1 during the day, so allow for up to a 10-minute wait at T2. The operator gives the journey as about 30 to 35 minutes depending on the time of day. The Turisme de Barcelona shop gives an average of 35 minutes, varying with traffic. Plan more time when you head to the airport at rush hour. Real-time arrivals are on the operator’s website and app.
How much does the Aerobús cost, and is the return worth it?
| Ticket | Price (checked 22 Oct 2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single | €7.75 | Valid 90 days from purchase |
| Return | €13.30 | Return leg valid 90 days from the outbound journey; usable from either terminal |
| Aerobús single + one metro/bus journey | €10.15 | The metro/bus leg is not valid at the airport metro stations |
| Hola Barcelona 24 h + Aerobús return | €24.35 | Operator’s combined ticket; card loaded via a voucher at any metro station except the airport |
| Hola Barcelona 48 h + Aerobús return | €29.65 | As above |
| Hola Barcelona 72 h + Aerobús return | €36.95 | As above |
| Hola Barcelona 96 h + Aerobús return | €44.00 | As above |
| Hola Barcelona 120 h + Aerobús return | €50.80 | As above |
The single and return cost the same in the Turisme de Barcelona shop and on the operator’s site, aerobusbarcelona.es. The combined-ticket prices are the totals the operator’s fare page shows, including a mandatory €1 supplement for the reusable card. Children under 4 travel free, and the operator lists no other child fare. Holders of Spanish large-family or single-parent family cards get 20% or 50% off single tickets, but only when buying from the staff at stops or on the bus.
Is the return worth it? Yes, if you are sure you’ll use the Aerobús both ways within the validity: it saves €2.20. Unused tickets can be refunded free of charge within 90 days of purchase, if bought online, through “Manage my ticket” on the operator’s site. Drivers and stop staff do not give refunds.
Is the Hola + Aerobús combination worth it? It bundles a travel card with a ride that duplicates part of it, because the Hola card already includes an airport metro trip each way. Buy the combination only if you want the Aerobús for comfort and the card for your days in the city. If cost matters more than comfort, the Hola card alone gets you to and from the airport by metro.
Where to buy Aerobús tickets (and which website is real)
- Online: the operator’s site, aerobusbarcelona.es, and its app, or the Turisme de Barcelona shop. You get a QR code by email and can show it on your phone; there is no need to print it, and no seat reservation.
- At the airport: self-service machines and staff at T1 (24-hour assistance staff and a customer service and lost property office) and at T2. Aena lists ticket sales at T1 Level 0 arrivals and T2B arrivals.
- In the city: staff and machines at Plaça Catalunya, and staff at Plaça Espanya.
- On the bus: yes, cash (maximum change €20) or card.
Watch out for aerobusbcn.com. On 22 Oct 2026 that domain showed unrelated content. Older guides still link it. Use aerobusbarcelona.es or the Turisme de Barcelona shop.
Can I take suitcases, a bike or a pram?
- Suitcases: the ticket includes the luggage you fly with (suitcase, backpack or travel bag), and it must travel on the same bus as you.
- Bikes, surfboards, skis: carried only if there is space, a maximum of three per bus and one per passenger. If there isn’t room, the operator puts you on the next bus.
- Prams and wheelchairs: every bus has a ramp and a reserved space. Wheelchair users can stay in their chair, secured with belts.
- Pets: small animals up to 10 kg, in an approved carrier, one per ticket.
- On board: free wifi and USB chargers. No toilet. Eating and drinking are not allowed.
The operator is not responsible for theft of hand luggage, so keep your valuables with you rather than in the luggage rack.
Common Aerobús mistakes
- Wrong line for your terminal. A1 is T1, A2 is T2. Check the terminal on your booking before you board, not at the airport.
- Waiting at Plaça Universitat to go to the airport. That stop is only for arrivals into the city. Board at Plaça Catalunya or Carrer Sepúlveda.
- Expecting a stop at Sants or Estació del Nord. There is none. From T2, the R2 Nord train goes straight to Sants.
- Paying for the Aerobús on top of a Hola card without meaning to. The card already includes the airport metro.
- Using the combined-ticket voucher at the airport. The Hola card or metro voucher has to be exchanged at a city metro station; the airport stations don’t accept it.
- Leaving no margin on the way to the airport. The operator’s 30–35 minutes is a typical time, and the A2 runs every 10 minutes by day.
How we checked this page
- Sources consulted on 22 Oct 2026: Aerobús operator site (lines and stops for A1 and A2 in both directions, rates page and its fare widget, FAQs, points of sale, terms of service); Turisme de Barcelona shop Aerobús page and booking widget (single and return options); TMB (fares, Airport ticket, metro-to-airport page, Hola card, operating hours); ATM (airport-to-city page, T-casual); Rodalies de Catalunya (R2 Nord page and timetable PDF dated 1 Sep 2026); Aena (bus and taxi pages, free inter-terminal shuttle); AMB 2026 taxi tariffs. Road distances for the taxi estimates came from the OSRM router on OpenStreetMap data.
- Our own work: the decision table, the frequency table rearranged by line and direction, the return and group cost comparisons, and the taxi estimates calculated from the official tariff.
- Not first-hand yet: nobody from our team has ridden the Aerobús for this page. We have no photos of the stops, buses or machines, and the door-to-door times marked as estimates are not measured.
- What we could not confirm: whether the on-board price differs from the online price (the operator shows one fare); whether there are seasonal timetable changes beyond the published frequencies. The Turisme shop’s FAQ still says “from €6.50 per journey”, which contradicts the €7.75 it sells at. ATM’s page shows an older €7.45 fare. We treat both as out of date.
